Trump's latest attempt to dunk on JapanNancy Pelosi really didn't work out.
Democratic congressional leaders sat down with Trump for a meeting about Syria on Wednesday, but they walked out after the president had a "meltdown," as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described it.
During a press conference outside the White House, Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said they left the meeting after Trump called Pelosi a "third-rate politician." Pelosi told reporters he'd actually called her a "third-grade politician."
"What we witnessed on the part of the president was a meltdown, sad to say," Pelosi said.
Earlier in the day, the House of Representatives condemned Trump's decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria, voting 354-60 on a resolution that a majority of Republicans also supported. That seems to have put Trump in a bad state for the meeting, which Schumer noted was more of a "nasty diatribe" than a dialogue.
Trump responded to the Democrats' statements by tweeting a photograph of Pelosi's "meltdown." The problem with his attempt is that she appears to be putting him in his place more than anything.

Even after it became clear that his strategy to ding Pelosi's image hadn't worked, he doubled down with this highly inappropriate tweet.

It was Pelosi, however, who delivered the final blow Wednesday night with a shiny new Twitter cover photo.
