LG is Watch I Don't Love You Yet Onlinedoubling down (pun intended) on its dual-screen phone concept.
The company announced an event to be held at the IFA trade show, which takes place from Sept. 6-11 in Berlin. The invite, available in the form of a short, playful video, hints at an outwards-folding smartphone with an additional, small outer screen.
So far, LG hasn't launched or announced any folding phones à la Samsung Galaxy Fold or Huawei Mate X, but it does have an odd, clip-on screen accessory for its LG V50 ThinQ. It therefore seems unlikely that this new device will have a foldable screen. Instead, LG has likely improved upon the V50's clip-on, possibly by adding a smaller display on its outer side.
The video also hints that the upcoming phone may be gaming-oriented, but there are no other details beyond that. LG's descriptions on Instagram and Facebook say that the company will "transform your everyday."
On one hand, it would be pretty bold of LG to launch a dual-screen phone without a foldable screen practically alongside the long-awaited Mate X and Galaxy Fold. On the other, if those two turn out to be duds, a phone with a detachable secondary screen might start looking like a good idea.
The event will be held on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET), and we'll be there to bring you the news.
