Ride-sharing drivers might be classic porn movieswithout employee protections or health insurance, but at least they have Driver Appreciation Day — if they work for Lyft.
The No. 2 ride-sharing company is celebrating its drivers with a new appreciation day on Wednesday. The company will match tips riders award its drivers for the day, capped at $20 per driver.

To mark the day, Lyft posted an animated short film featuring music by Sir the Baptist, who Zimmer said got his start in music while working as a Lyft driver. The 7-minute film, directed by a longtime Disney and Pixar animator, follows an older woman who becomes a Lyft driver after her car is totaled.
To appreciate its drivers outside of Dec. 14, Zimmer said that Lyft allows drivers to receive tips from customers and to be paid the same day they work with an express pay system. Lyft also lets drivers who work hours that would traditionally be considered full-time earn back the 20 percent or so that Lyft takes from each ride.
Uber also uses the phrase "driver appreciation" and has hosted local events in that vein in the past.
Happy appreciation day, Lyft drivers.
