Netflix just made its first acquisition—and it's for a whole new world.
The Watch Carnal Sins (2001) full moviestreaming giant has acquired Millarworld, the company of comic book legend Mark Millar.
The deal highlights Netflix's aggressive push into making its own shows based on external characters and stories, something it has already done with numerous Marvel comic-based shows.
Netflix did not disclose the price of the acquisition.
"The acquisition, the first ever by Netflix, is a natural progression in the company’s effort to work directly with prolific and skilled creators and to acquire intellectual property and ownership of stories featuring compelling characters and timeless, interwoven fictional worlds," the company wrote in a press release.

Millar is a giant in the comic book world, having created numerous popular franchises of the 1990s and 2000s including Kick-Assand The Secret Service (which became the Kingsman movies).
Millarworld hasn't quite caught up to that success, but Millar remains a major name in the industry. He wrote some of the most influential Marvel stories of recent years, including the original Civil Warcomic and Old Man Logan, which inspired the most recent Wolverine movie Logan.
In true Netflix fashion, the company released a hype video for the move.

Netflix is already heavily involved with Marvel, having produced numerous shows featuring its characters including Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, andIron Fist. There's more on the way as well, including the mashup of the previous four titles in The Defenders,as well as its spinoff in The Punisher.
Millar started Millarworld about 15 years ago in an effort to make a company that would allow him and other comic book artists and writers to control their own work. He currently runs it with his wife, Lucy Millar, whom he credited as having a major role in the company's success and eventual acquisition.
"Everyone involved in this process knows she’s the genuine business brain at our company," Millar wrote in a blog post. "She and I had flights from Scotland to LA for sometimes just three hours of meetings during this lengthy negotiation, scrabbling for baby-sitters and jet-lagged to Hell, but still she managed to always be smiling, keeping it all on-track for all our partners and keeping everyone in the loop seemingly 24/7."
