"It is time to offer something a little different – something stronger and darker, with an edge," founder Sean Kristafor said of Black Insomnia in a press release.
Though the coveted title for "World's Strongest Coffee" has been tossed around over the years, Black Insomnia's claims to fame have some science behind them. The company sent bags of its coffee, along with bags from samples of rivals' coffee -- also claiming to be superior in strength -- to be tested by a lab. Black Insomnia apparently prevailed.
As Caffeine Informer -- a trusted source for all caffeinated beverage-related information -- shows, former title holder, Death Wish Coffee, has about 660 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce cup, whereas Black Insomnia has a whopping 702 milligrams.

And in case that wasn't solid enough evidence, the Mayo Clinic also wants to assure everyone that Black Insomnia truly packs a punch. "Up to 400 mg of caffeine a day, appears to be safe for most healthy adults," the medical research group said in the release. "That's equivalent to about four [6 oz cups] of brewed coffee," which means a single 6 oz cup of Black Insomnia nearly fulfills the daily recommended maximum intake.
Yikesssss. 😲
If you're still up for the challenge, you'll be able to purchase the seriously strong coffee -- which has a flavor described as "indulgent, smooth, sweet and nutty" from its strong robusta coffee beans -- on Amazon. But please remember to caffeinate in moderation.
