Apple's leaked HomePod firmware is Taste of a Married Womanthe gift that keeps on giving.
This time iHelp BRhas discovered lines of code referencing possible upgrades Apple might make to the upcoming iPhone 8's front and rear cameras. Vloggers like Casey Neistat will especially love these additions if they turn out to be true.
SEE ALSO: What iOS 11 might look like on the iPhone 8's edge-to-edge screenThe firmware dump doesn't tell us anything about the iPhone 8's image sensors, but it includes references that suggest the phone will be capable of recording video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
Apple first added 4K video capture at 30 frames per second to the iPhone 6S, and it's remained the same on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
Bumping the frame rate up to 60 fps gives videos a more lifelike look. Other advantages of recording with twice the frame rate include less motion blur, especially for shooting fast-moving subjects like action sports, and the ability to slow down footage even more when editing.
You can see a comparison between 30 fps and 60 fps in the video below (turn off the volume unless you like dubstep).
Many of the most popular vloggers on YouTube prefer to record themselves in 4K at 60 fps because the quality is so much better-looking, but it's debatable whether anyone else really notices much of a difference unless they're paying careful attention.
Even better than doubling the frame rate on the iPhone's back cameras is the possibility that Apple might include the same new recording option on the front-facing selfie camera. Vloggers need to look at their phone screen to frame their shots, but the iPhone 7's FaceTime HD resolution maxes out at 1080p at 30 fps.
SEE ALSO: How to Vlog Like a Pro Using Your PhoneThe iPhone's selfie camera has been stuck with full HD recording for the longest time as Android phones leaped ahead with higher resolution capture, so it's really time it received an upgrade.
If the iPhone 8 includes 4K recording at 60 fps on both the front and back cameras, it could become the vlogger's camera of choice and replace their bulky camera-on-tripod rigs.
